Veganuary + The Protein Ball Co

Veganuary

March 19, 2018

The new year often brings lots of new year’s resolutions that just aren’t realistic or achievable. We know that it can be hard to stick to going to the gym 5 times a week when you’ve never gone more than once a week in your life! And we know that cutting out your favourite food is just near on impossible! That’s why we are big fans of more realistic and environmentally friendly new year’s resolutions, such as Veganuary.

Veganuary is a charity that inspires people to try following a vegan diet for January, and then possibly throughout the rest of the year. The idea behind it is to encourage people to eat less meat and animal products to help the environment and also to help them become more educated in vegan food.

We believe that there is still not a complete understanding of what a vegan diet is and how it can be beneficial for your body (and not just the environment!). Particularly there is a lack of knowledge in how to consume good levels of protein whilst following a vegan diet. Of course being experts in the world of protein, we thought we would share with you some of our top tips!

If you’re going to follow Veganuary this month, or even for the rest of the year, you’ll need to know exactly what food sources you can get protein from. Don’t forget, protein is essential for muscle repair, new tissue growth, digestion and immunity so you don’t want to miss out on all of these benefits just because you’re giving up meat! Some vegan friendly protein sources are:

  • Nuts
  • Non dairy milk - eg soya, almond, hemp, oat + coconut
  • Soy cheese
  • Nut Butters - eg peanut butter, almond butter + cashew butter
  • Quinoa
  • Tofu
  • Lentils
  • Beans
  • Tempeh
  • Sprouted-grain bread
  • Pea & Rice protein powders - which of course make the best plant based protein for our vegan protein balls (Lemon + Pistachio, Goji + Coconut, Raspberry Brownie and Peanut Butter + Jam!)

If you’re stuck for vegan recipes, Veganuary has a great list here, and they also have a list of vegan friendly restaurants for you to visit here.

This is one new year’s resolution we can get on board with!
